The story behind my Fashion Week ONLYYY Dress!!!
So here is the deal,
I didn't have the means to show a full collection at San Juan High Fashion Week this past week buuuuutttt, i got a phone call from a friend that rented a kiosk space at "The Shops Area". Her name is Marisel San Inocencio and, yes, she is as crafty and fabulous as she is nice and well spirited. She proposed that since she was advertising a machine that does material cutouts she wanted me to design and execute an outfit for her to add the fabulouuuus cutouts... Well, we met and yes, I was all in, and somehow during the conversation I proposed to do a SUIT-DRESS (at least I thought it will standout from a multitude of chiffon dresses), after she told me that revealing was in just a few days, making me feel tempted to do a chiffon dress (LOL).
What the heck!!!, I thought, we will make it work and yes WE DID!!! It took me two days to do the pattern, cut the fabric, double lining it since it was kinda see through and sew it for her to do the application of the high gloss "charol" forms she patiently cut. We were both amazed that in just a few days we completed a look that would remind me that effort pays off and doing the difficult and methodical designs can sometimes be rewarding during immediate tense deadlines.
We went to the main event area previous to the shows while everybody waited to enter the room and got some interesting feedback, weird looks and a lot of approving smiles. I believe Marisel networked and found a few possible clients for her product. While that happened, I kept peaking in the room where my future fashion shows will be held (NEXT YEAR PERHAPS???) Here is the result and we really hope you like it!
Sincerely, Rey Ortiz
Long Story Short- Avoid Chiffon or as I call it in Puerto Rican Spanish CHIFOOOOOOO!!! Deadlines are a good thing.

My sister didn't hesitate and jumped into my dress while I was visiting my mom... She was the perfect size for it!

Rey Ortiz??? Why are you bartending? Are you crazy??? Those Pants???
So! This is the deal:
I moved back to Puerto Rico after finishing my Master's Degree on Animation from the Savannah College of Art and Design (Scad) and, somehow, my life had a twist. I never thought that the influence my mom has on me was going to push me into the fashion scene... She has been sewing since she was 11 years old and I grew up watching her do amazing clothing w/o ANY school training. I was into my own artwork and never really paid attention (or so I thought) to her abilities or process. My dad (a contractor) is also very aesthetically conscious and he likes "perfection without hesitation" (that rhymes) on his construction sites.
People think that because I can draw with ease and have a commercial eye for everything I do I should work for an agency sitting on a computer all day... For a while I thought about that too. I love art and it should be apparent on my blogs. I love to create whatever needs to be created. That's why I chose to accept something else for a while.
A BARTENDING JOB
... hahaha (I get to use "Short Shorts" if I want too)
Yes, it may sound contradictory BUUUUT I find myself with plenty of time to spend on my AMAZING new found passion.
FASHION
I am taking independent and specific classes to learn sewing, tailoring, pattern making and some good tricks. Then I use my knowledge of 3D space and my "OCD" eye to make it work. I amaze myself every-time I find that my studies on Animation and Graphic Design (even Advertising) help me create good designs and execute them well...
In conclusion, I love the "mysterious" STEPS I'm taking to become a very successful designer and start this MIXTURE of "Fashion and Art In General" that, I believe, will be very refreshing and will make a lot of people happy including myself.
THANK YOU MOM and DAD!!!

Let's start on Halloween!!!
I have a very good friend called Melister Padilla and she loves my sketches. One night, she suggested that I should design and sew her Halloween Costume for a major yearly event and I was thrilled that eventhough I'm still learning, she trusted me for that endeavor.
Why?
She is very CHICCC and she knows here Prada from her Fucccci! She is in the "Fashion Design Scene" for years as a Jewerly Designer so I thought, if she trusts me, maybe I'm doing something right!!! Yes indeed, she even told her HIGH-mainteinance friends about me designing for her...
OUCH, that was some unexpected added gravity... To make the long story short, she assisted the amazing Halloween Party she was invited to and ended up being the only fabulous WHITE WITCH at the party full of dark, “Party City” Witches... The effort paid off... I’m sure I’ll have a few more clients for the upcoming Halloween season.
Oh, and I want to thank Wicked for the amazing inspiration it gave me after seeing the Broadway show more than two years ago!
